After the release of The Steinway Grand this May, Strezov Sampling are at it again with another free Kontakt Player library – part of a continuing Native Instruments sound collection, called The Creative ToolboX.
So far, we’ve been presented with a drum/percussion sample library, later followed by a concert piano (mentioned previously) and now with a small string section: Minimalist Violins.
The Minimalist Violins Legato Freebie, as its full name suggests, provides a modest, legato-supported 6-violin section. It is derived from an existing Strezov Sampling commercial string ensemble – which you may know as The Afflatus Chapter Strings.
Developer: Strezov Sampling
Supports (free Kontakt Player 7): Windows, macOS (VST3 / AU, AAX / 64-bit / Standalone)
Size: About 4 Gigabytes
With three microphone outputs, in addition to some high-end set of features that include polyphonic true legato, this library offers a quite immersive plugin experience. Considering its free status, you don’t really expect it to be that feature-packed right off the bat, but thankfully it is.
The strings are dynamically varied with full mod-wheel control. You also have the option to switch between Full Section and Half Section depending on the mood or style of your composition – allowing for even greater creative pliability.
The commercial qualities offered in this impressive collection automatically turn this library into a very viable option for musicians on a budget, free plugin enthusiasts or those who are just starting out as producers and looking for some decent sounding violins.
To get your free copy of Minimalist Violins, you may refer to the developers’ website. Note that it does require full registration and product activation on NI’s software, Native Access.
Strezov Sampling have a history of releasing quality free Kontakt libraries. They include the Balkan Ethnic Orchestra, Felt Seiler piano and the more recent Diamond Jazz Trio instrument collection.
