Music producing YouTuber and plugin developer Venus Theory has released his 2nd Decent Sampler VST instrument under the new and free Auras series: Volts.
The first in the series – auras:polyscape – was launched exactly two months ago in early September. Auras relies on synthesized sounds with special focus on high-end analog and modular based music making equipment.
Volts vs. Polyscape
When compared, while Polyscape was a bit more oriented on the textural, organic kind of tone, Volts seems like it is more centered on the warm, harmonically rich analog synth sound – and this is reflected in the amount of pad presets that it has to offer contrary to the previous Auras.
When it comes to the more technical aspects, both plugins share the same set of features. Those include your usual ADSR envelope parameters, essential sound design effects like reverb and delay in addition to a fully-controllable frequency filter.
Auras Volts, like Polyscape, uses an A-B sound layering mechanism that you can manipulate with your MIDI controller (through CC mappings). You could also automate it in your DAW using LFO or adjust it manually. It is possible to use it in conjunction with the Dynamics parameter so the sound evolves more expressively.
Sampling: Using high-end modular synthesis gear
As developer Venus Theory explains in his latest VST release, the sound of auras:volts was achieved by sampling hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of modular synthesizers in addition to other high-end analog gear that he was able to get his hands on when visiting a recent Knobcon convention in Chicago, Illinois (an event for synthesizer enthusiasts). One of the machines that he had the chance to capture is the Analogue Solutions Maximus 4V – a modular polysynth unit.
auras:volts is a Decent Sampler player compatible sample library. Decent Sampler by Decidedly is a standalone host and VST plugin that is available for Windows/PC & Mac as well as for Linux and iOS (iPadOS). The following plugin formats are supported: VST, VST3, AU and AAX.
